have a cholesterol of 212 and am going to the doctor next week. Am on a cholesterol lowering drug. Have always tried to eat low cholesterol foods before getting my blood checked. Any suggestions on what to eat the night before so I don't mess up the test. Have to fast for the blood test.

Your cholesterol isn't too high it's borderline. Mine was as high as yours. 241 and my doc is already wrecking my nerves about it. My thing is you don't have to cut out every single thing, just use moderation. It's tough to cut out everything nowadays because everything you eat has some sort of cholesterol in it unless you go on a vegetarian diet. Try taking some fresh ginger every night before you go to bed and it lowers your cholesterol level. Take a small piece every night then have your blood rechecked about six months or so, you should see a result.

i would go with christina on that suggestion. my mother does the same thing, and now her colesterol is fine.

good idea. At least there is something in the way of food out there to help cholesterol go down. You folks are right: Everything has cholesterol in it no matter what. Thanks.

the thing is though, if you do the ginger every night, i would not suggest getting back on the colesterol lowering drugs.

Somanea's right. I was taking zocor for like a year and some months. It was helping me in terms of keeping it down but my doc didn't want to keep me on it because she figured I'd become too dependent on the drug. Hell it's not like I would get high and besides, if I don't like the other pills she's giving me for anemia problems what would make her think I would become dependent on cholesterol meds? So ever since she took me off the drug someone advised me to take that ginger and I've been taking it ever since.

also, if you get your colesterol too low, it can cause problems as well. you need to keep it normalized you know? too high is bad, but at the same time, too low is bad as well. and alot of these colesterol lowering drugs bring your colesterol down to a low level that is just as bad as having it skyrocketed as well. what you should do is cut out the grains and sugars in your diet as well. that will eliminate alot of colesterol and other problems. but do not go with artificial sweeteners. those are known to cause health problems as well. there is this natural sweetener called stevia. it is extracted from the stevia herb. i use it myself. it will not make your blood sugar or your colesterol go up. and it takes only a tiny tiny bit to sweeten your drinks because it is much sweeter than sugar.

oh and i forgot to mention that you can get it at your local health food store. just ask the person at the store to tell you how to use the stevia because it is a bit hard to measure.
